The size I needed was unavailable so out of desperation, I sized up. It was loose on me but what saved it was the fact that there are snaps at the shoulders so you can attach it to a bra and not keep tugging at your neckline all night. the fabric is heavy and the cape makes you feel covered, so for my winter event I felt very comfortable. The style is classic, perfect for work. If styled wrong, it could come across as matronly or mother-of-the-bride so I added yellow accessories to make it feel a little more youthful. The dress has stretch so the size is forgiving. If I had been wearing the correct size, my problem area tummy still would have been covered. I am 5'2", 148 lbs and it hit me right at the knee. I wore a 14 but should have worn the 10 or 12.

The fabric was gorgeous, the drape was stunning and flattering. It would hide a bit of a tummy nicely. The color is a rich, deep blue but I have had this problem with other Halston dresses: they design for someone with a LONG torso. If I could have taken it in 2" at the shoulders, it would have fit perfectly. Since the neckline plunges, it is unforgiving if you are petite. For reference, I am 5'2".

The dress is gorgeous- on an hourglass figure. I read the reviews and ladies of all shapes and sizes raved. I took a gamble, hoping it would shape me, being super stretchy. From the front it was lovely. From the back and side, Shamu in a stocking. This dress compresses. It compressed my waist a little, my hips, my butt, my chest... all into one cylindrical sausage casing. I am 5'2". The length was perfect. I am 148lbs and apple shaped. My butt is flat and square. When I looked in the mirror, I cried. Not tears of joy- tears of resignation that I could not be seen in public in this gorgeous monstrosity. Visiting the Chicago store was an exercise in humiliation. The staff were superb. They tried really, really hard to accommodate me. They even let me try on all 2 dresses that they had in my size, plus a few wishful thinking ones. Then they tried to order me some more for my 2nd event but most everything is out of stock for the holiday season. I left in tears. Once home, I was able to order something plus a backup for my 2nd event but will have to make do with what's in my closet for tomorrow's event. Here's to hoping mondays dress won't shame me into an eating disorder.
